I am having a really hard time germinating lettuce. :(
My latest attempt was to wet the ground , put out seeds, lightly cover with soil, then put newspaper over it and water the newspaper when I figured it should be watered. This worked really good for onions, radishes, swiss chard.
Anybody got any ideas?

I have done some research and find out that the ideal temperature for germinating lettuce is 50 degrees F.

It has been over 80 here lately.

When it cools off I may get some baby lettuces! :D

I germinate spinach and lettuce seeds by using sheets of toilet paper over a light coat of mature compost, while moisturizing the seeds with a light dilute brew of aerated compost tea mixed with seaweed and molasses.

Happy Gardening!
