I have a pecan with a 18" caliper trunk. I had to dig down 3 feet to expose the flare. What do I do with the hole? It will fill in with rain and time.
Thanks.

If you cannot re-level the surrounding area, then making a drainage path from the hole to a lower spot might be in order. There are several articles in the books and the info secion of the site on the easier drainage methods.

That's a mighty deep hole though- it must have really been planted funny for the flare to have been that deep.
