I'm planning to re-landscape my front yard. One of the things I would like to do is run a vine of some sort up my wall. Does anyone know how I can safely do this on Hardie Plank? Also, what sort of vine should I use? I live around Houston, Texas, and I would like to use natives, although I am open to other types of plants.

Do you have sun or shade?

It's on the North side of the house, but it gets plenty of sun. There are no trees in the way. I would put it as somewhere between partial shade and full sun.

You could you native coral or yellow honeysuckle or a couple of colorful clematis. Go to the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower center's website and check out the native plant database.

Would Trumpet Vine, Carolina Jessamine, or Cross-Vine work?

Trumpet vine is incredibly invasive. Trust me, don't plant it. Cross vine is a little better. Carolina Jessamine is evergreen but it blooms in the winter months and into early spring. I, personally, prefer native plants.

I second the remarks about trumpet vine. It is invasive and grows huge - it will topple trellises if not kept under control. It climbs trees and can strangle them, and can completely cover telephone poles.

What if she had said that it was shade/partial shade?
