I am new to organic gardening and need help with weed control ideas. Keeping them pulled doesn't seem to be enough, and I need a product that will keep them out of my flower beds and lawn ASAP! I'd like to find something locally or mix up somethign myself, but I really don't know where to start. The only thing I find is Dirt Doctors Soil Mender, which is probably great, but I have a large yard and need something that is more economical. Any suggestions?
I thought I was losing my mind when first an answer I posted seemed to disappear, so I answered again this morning, then just now the first one came back again, without the second. And now I find the same question in a third place, this time, with no answers (yet).
Patience is an important tool in gardening! Post your question once in one location, then you have less to keep track of if you come back looking for an answer, and it makes it easier to carry on a conversation if one should ensue.

You might try spreading dried molasses or sugar. I've heard that sugar keeps weeds out of Bermuda grass lawns, but I haven't tried it yet. I have used dried molasses, and it does seem to work, at least for a while until you need to reapply. The key is to improve the soil quality rather than just treating the symptoms.
