Can anyone tell me if putting footies around a tomato fruit will work if something is eating my green tomatoes, especially those near the ground? Trying to grow tomatoes in hot, hot, hot Texas is hard enough, much less to have them eaten up before they ripen!! Ugh! Thanks for any advice you can give.
does it look like a hole pecked in it or something actually munching into it? The first one would be a bird and the latter would be a caterpillar of some sort. Yes, footies does help. I bought some cheap colored pantyhose and cut them 4-5 inches wide, then slipped it over the fruit. I had purchased the green ones (which I prefer) from a nursery but they're expensive.
Thanks Sandy. I'm crossing my fingers they work since it looks like I'll only have about 15 tomatoes this summer, unless they come around again once it cools down a bit.
