 Post subject: what should fill the holes up with besides compost?

the ground was soft and i went after the crabgrass and dallis grass. i basically dug around them and dug em up. looks l have pot holes in my yard. it wasn't a big area. now i need to fill the holes backup what do i need besides compost. thanks
