I'm starting a series of threads for y'all to list the places you can go to get organic products in your area. If anyone accidentally posts to the wrong city, I'll go ahead and move it to the right place (if I can). If you list a place that specialized in only one or a few organic products, please let us know. For example if a place only sells compost, we need to know not to go there for alfalfa meal or corn gluten meal.

If the numbers of visits to this thread don't warrant leaving this message near the top of the forum, then I'll take the 'sticky' off and let it drift.

I'm starting this series of threads for the bigger cities in Texas. If there is interest in other towns or cities outside of Texas, please start your own thread here and I'll put the sticky on it. If the super administrator wants to move this to a new forum, that might happen, since this is not just a lawns issue. If that happens, I'll let y'all know where to find them.

Since I'm in San Antonio, I'll start this thread off with the obvious...

Garden-Ville on the north east side of town out Nacogdoches road past 1604 about a mile to Evans road. Turn left (north) and go about another mile. You'll see the sign on the right. 7561 E. Evans Rd. (210) 651-6115 http://www.garden-ville.com/

Shades of Green nursery on Sunset road inside loop 410 on the north side between Broadway and Jones Maltsberger near Home Depot.

Mumme's north on 281 a couple miles past 1604. I usually get my corn meal and corn gluten meal there.

Lowes carries some organic products. Be sure to read the labels to be sure you are getting what you are expecting to get. Some products are "organic based," which means they have some organic materials mixed in with chemicals.

The only problems I had with the DD business directory are (1) that it is extremely Dallas-centric and (2) it is not interactive.

Okay, not enough activity on the San Antonio site. Does everyone know where to go to get stuff? I'll suggest the places I go and actually buy.

Mumme's feed store on 281 north before Bulverde. Corn meal.
Lubianski Grain Co in St Hedwig south east of town past 1604. Anything you want.
Ful-O-Pep Feed on Rigsby at W.W. White on the southeast side of town. Corn gluten meal, corn meal, alfalfa pellets.

And there's a feed store on Blanco just north of Hildebrand deep inside loop 410 that I cannot remember the name of. Alfalfa pellets.

As far as understanding organic gardening, Mumme's is far and away the smartest on this short list.

Places where I go but don't often buy are

Shades of Green nursery on Sunset between Broadway and Jones Maltsberger. I would buy plants there.
Garden-Ville on the northeast out past Rolling Oaks Mall. Compost.

Thought I would throw my 2-cents worth in.

For those who may be interested you can also go by the San Antonio Brush Facility on old Bitters Rd (South side of the NEISD Blossom Athletic Complex and North of the Airport). You can get all the shredded mulch you want, for a very small price. However, I caution you that you do not know what is in there when they shred. I have used it before and have been pleased. I used it along a pathway and as an admendment to my mulch pile.

Also, Lowes on 1604 and blanco has some limited organics, most is in a section of it's own.

There is also a feed store on Broadway just north of Grayson Street.

Lyssy and Eckel in Poth is a great source for many things and they are getting better all the time. They are always willing to work with you for your special needs.

Cooper's nursery, just south of Floresville, is a wonderful new organic source and they have great plants. Karen is a jewel!!! And it's nice not to have to go all the way to San Antonio for supplies

We have now opened Nonnie's House of organics and gifts in Irving. We are at 2440 W. Irving Blvd. on the southwest corner of Irving Blvd. and Storey Rd next to the Betcha Bingo. You WILL NOT find any chemical's or synthetic fertilizers at our store. Only 100% organic and natural.

anyone know where I can get BULK pecan mulch in San Antonio??? I can only find it in Bags.

All Calloway's Nursery stores offer a full line of organic products. Their Organic Lawn fertilizer is very good.

FETILE GARDEN ON 1604 NW SIDE OF TOWN IS THE BEST IN MY OPINION AND ITS A DRIVE FOR ME. iNEXPENSIVE AND YOU CAN BUY A SCOOP OF MOLASSES OR A 50 LB BAG LOTS OF CHOICES! i LIKE THEIR SOIL AND COMPOST BETTER THAN GARDENVILLE I LIKE STONE AND SOIL OUT I10 NEAR FAIR OAKS SOIL BETTER THAN GV TOO BUT THE SPRAYS THERE AT GV ARE THE LEAST EXPENSIVE.
SHADES OF GREEN BY THE QUARRY SEEMS TO HAVE THE MOST KNOWLEGDABLE STAFF FOR ORGANICS OF ANYWHERE BUT LIMITED BULK BENEFITS FOR COMPOST AND MULCH AND A LITTLE PRICEY BUT THE PLANTS ARE WORHT IT FOR AURE, ALWAYS THE HEALTHIEST LOVE IT!!

For the similar type of problem, I called upl Garden-Ville, Fertile Garden Supply, or New Earth Technologies. Look for these.. worth giving ur precious time. And hey.. best of LUCK.!
