Wow- that looks llike a beautiful peonie to me! They don't do well here, not enuf cold, so I'm at a loss-but if it IS a peonie-you are soooo lucky!

Yep, Patty is right, you have a peony, you lucky person. They like cold, so in the winter, dump ice on it -- I'm serious-- if you have any to spare (just in the winter, though, when it's dormant!). Keep the hot sun off it (probably the fence does that), keep it mulched, and feed it to keep it happy. That's about all you can do for it.
