I've seen conflicting information regarding how to take care of rainbarrels in the DFW area over the winter.

One source said the barrels have to be drained, or they could freeze and break.

A different source said rainbarrels would be ok (even in freezing weather) if they had enough water so they can't freeze solid.

A third source said (some) rainbarrels will crack during a hard frost - so they should be stored inside. <- I don't have the room to do this

Anyone in the DFW area have the answer to this?

Thanks!

Most likely, it would depend on the material of which your particular rain barrel is made. Check with the manufacturer. My Koolatron brand rain barrels are good to temperatures well below what we get here in North Texas.

I leave mine as is full of water. I have an opening on the top, so the water has somewhere to go if it freezes. It turned out not be be an issue so far.
