I have a pretty climbing flower. The bloom is yellow. I am looking at how to take a start to have a piece of this on a trellis, how would I divide this and any idea of the name? Thank you. TEXAS plant
Also we are new to Texas so rumor says we can NOT pick the blue bonnets? Is this true?

Yes it is true. The Blue Bonnet is the Texas state flower. You will notice that sides of the highways are never mowed until after the blue bonnets are finished blooming. Lady Bird Johnson made it her project to have the wild flowers and blue bonnets planted along the Texas highways, to beautify them. The blue bonnets, paint brushes, and butter cups are pretty in full bloom.

Actually, even though it is the State flower of Texas, there is no law against picking a bluebonnet. It is frowned upon by us Texans since it is the removal of potential seeds for next years crop, but you will not be fined, arrested or shot...only scorned.
All my life I have heard that it's against the law...I think we were told that to scare us.
I scattered some bluebonnet seed last fall, and nothing came up. I barely raked soil over them. What did I do wrong? I didn't think there was anything to growing bluebonnets here!

Bluebonnet seed has a very tough outside. In other words, nature will have to rough up the seed before it can germinate. Maybe they will grow next year. You can buy seed that has been scarified which will grow the same season that you plant it. Bluebonnets seem to prefer poor, well drained soil.

It can sometimes take a couple of seasons for bluebonnet seeds to germinate due to the hard casing. Sometime people score and soak the seeds prior to planting.
