Please help! We got free mulch for our flower beds from our city's compost center. Now, after several weeks of rain/clouds, there are small piles of what I guess is a mold, or mildew, or fungus. It actually looks like tan or yellow foamy vomit (sorry to be so descriptive!) and is quite runny if disturbed. After a few days, it darkens to charcoal color and flattens out. Does anyone know what this is and how I can get rid of it? Thanks!
This is one of Mother Nature’s tools trying to accelerate the breakdown of your mulch. It is not a pretty site but is harmless. Take a rake or shovel and tip it over, throw some fresh mulch over it.
Good name! When we moved into our new home, this was one of the first things I experienced in gardening. I swore someone's dog had thrown up in the bed! Cornmeal worked great on it. I had some recently in another bed and when water hit it, it went flying out in puffs. Strange stuff!
