Yesterday I peeped a few shrubs, planted some time ago by landscapers at an apartment complex in Las Colinas. The flowers were pink (not any now but I remember seeing them last year, not sure which season). Looking at the enlongated spent flower parts, there are lots of small brown round seeds still attached. I will go back today to take photos. I am wondering if this is a type of lilac, butterfly bush or neither. In it's current form, the lower part of the shrub doesnt have many leaves at all. I did find baby plants growing under the larger one and pulled a few up, tap root included. Lilacs that I have seen, have fairly large leaves but this shrub's leaves were not large at all. Some of the branches were up to perhaps 3" in diameter and there wasn't any real symmetry in how they were growing, truly shrub like. My confusion stems from my thoughts that butterflybush die back each year (this shrub definitely has not), and that Lilac blooms early spring and has larger somewhat rounded leaves. Any ideas? Thanks

Lilac doesn't grow well down here in Texas - you have to baby it a lot. I've never seen the seeds. It has compound flower clusters and there is a tiny tubular corolla, but it isn't very elongated.
