I saw a red bird with dark wings flying about my garden the other day. I was not able to take a picture, but it's general body shape is that of the painted bunting, but a little larger. (It is not a Cardinal). I haven't seen this bird around before.

Also, when should I be putting out my humming bird feeders? All of the native brush is starting to bloom.

Thanks

My place is in South Texas, south west of Corpus.

South Texas? Yes! Put your hummingbird feeders out now. I am in north Texas and have seen scouts early as the 8th of March.
I regret I am unable to help you on the bird ID.

I'll have to put out the feeders today or tomorrow. I've been waiting for the wind to slack off a bit. You would think it was the Panhandle with all this wind.

Swallows of various species have started returning. If the bird remained in the air all the time it might have been one of the swallows.

Other red birds include Scarlet and Summer Tanager.

It looks like it was the Scarlet Tanager. Thanks!

I haven't seen it in a few days, so I can only go from memory now. But it was a very pretty bird.
