I have 3 bald cypress in my yard in Allen. All >8" in diameter. I have 1 that is sick. In fall 2013, after an arborist took a look, we exposed root flares and removed some girdling roots. Applied sick tree treatment. In 2014, the leaves broke and were light green all season. looked like it needed a big shot of iron. The other two trees look healthy and the leaves are med-dark green. Spacing between the three trees is 20-25'. The sick tree went to fall color early under the stress of the summer heat. Unlike the other two trees, all the leaves didn't drop.
My plan is to apply the sick tree treatment as soon as this weekend. I haven't sprayed the trunk/foliage in the past but I have the equipment to do it. Any other suggestions?

Just as you found it was buried too deep, the roots may be circling and girdling also. You may need to go a little deeper and see if that is happening.

I have a tree doing much the same thing in the back yard - planted at the same time as one in my front yard. The size difference is remarkable. I pulled dirt away from the too-deep roots of both trees several years ago, but the tree in the back has failed to grow very much since then. I probably need to poke around more and if there are girdling roots, cut them through.

My front yard tree gets a bit too dry and turns yellow earlier than others in the neighborhood. I have to remember to water in the middle of summer to keep it looking good in late summer.
