I want to plant something on my 15 acre parcel that would provide a long flowering period - nectar and pollen - for my bees. The land is in Delta County so it is heavy clay-based soil. Any suggestions>

Delta County is east of Hunt County. The property is about centered in a Greenville, Paris, Sulphur Springs triangle.

I am a native plant geek and am always pleased to see how many hummingbirds, bees, butterflies and other pollinators I have on my plants. I think that area is still the Blackland Prairie. I would check out Sally and Andy Wasaowski book called "Native Texas Plants" and it will will spell out which regions of Texas the plant can survive and the types of soils. Native plants establish very quickly and most are extremely drought tolerant. You can also look at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center website at their Native Plant database. Both sources document groundcovers, trees, shrubs etc, everything you could need in all lighting situations.
