Most advice I hear says that we should keep Bermuda short to promote a stronger root base as well as increasing the spread to "take over". My problem is; when I cut it lower than 2.5 inches, I have severe browning because it just cuts it too short. I'm not sure exactly what king of Bermuda it is, it was put in when we built our home in September.

I've tried sharpening my blades but I still brown up bad and it takes a week and a lot of water to recover.

How do I get it an inch thick without that scalped look?

Thanks, Jim...

That would be nice if I knew what you were talking about,, unless it's a pun. Everyone in my neck of the woods uses a "real" lawn mower. Briggs/Straton, Murray, Honda,, that kinda thing.

Someone else maybe?

Jim,

He means a reel lawn mower, which is a real lawn mower... I am sure you have seen one in action if you ever watched "Leave it to Beaver" when you were a kid.

Check this out.

Yes I know Scott thanks.

That's why I went on to say Real Mower. Pushing an antiquated torture device held over from the Spanish Inquisition with my knees ain't very condusive to my welfare.

I need some advice on how to use a GASOLINE powered mower and cut my grass about an inch without halfway killing it in the process.

Thanks all.

Jim, Take a look at this link http://www.composters.com/docs/lawncare4.html?k=PushReelMower#lg It has a good picture of a reel mower.

Sorry Jim, You beat me to the post. The reel mower is good for exercise also. Growing up I used to mow with a reel mower until my father bought a gas powered mower. I thought I was in grass heaven. It would take me a fraction of the time to mow the lawn. Good luck on your mowing adventure. From my experiences, I have not been able to get my gas mower down to 1 inch on the lowest setting so I just mow at what ever height is the lowest setting.

See if this meets your needs. :)

The only way I know to avoid your problem is to mow often (more than once per week). Only problem with that is you are having to mow often.
