I can only represent a consensus of one, but I use Revolution. My vet doesn't sell it now, they use Advantage, a similar product, but the vet charges a lot per monthly dose. I buy my Revolution online (you have to know how much your dog weighs in kilograms, because it comes from Canada and is a British product called "Stronghold." It is color-coded the same as the US product, so my dogs use the green box in the US and the green box from the UK. I pay about half of what the vet was charging, and the vet knows my dogs are still getting their heartworm monthly treatment. (I think vets in general stopped selling it because it is available without a prescription now. The profit margin is greater in the Rx products.)

I prefer Revolution because it is a little more comprehensive than Advantage. It claims to prevent heartworms, fleas, and ticks. My dogs are outside dogs, so I prefer they have the more comprehensive protection.

A 12-month supply per dog was $158 last time I bought it. It's over $300 at my vet for the comparable Advantage.
