Does anyone know how to make my own Boric acid sugar baits to control household flies. I was reading something on the web that mentioned using granular boric acid sugar baits had very little repellent factor and indeed did lure the flies in and kill them.

TIA

As I recall from Howard, boric acid and something sweet is for cock roaches not flies, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for your input Robert. Can you take a look at this website and let me know what you think?

Christina,

I'm not sure whether boric acid will work for fly control, but you can easily find out. Mix the borisc acid with powdered sugar. Try from 10 to 50% boric acid to sugar and see if there is any difference in effect.

Boric acid is a chronic stomach poison so you might not see dead flies but a reduction in numbers.

The best control is exclusion. Keep windows closed or screens in place when open, likewise with doors, wash outdoor garbage cans at least daily, and if bug zappers are used, place them 50 feet from the building since they attract flies and only kill a portion.

I hope that this helps.

I've seen some baited traps that collect flies in a bottle. Look at a feed store.
