We bought a house with a dead lawn (front and back). I've rented a sod cutter and now I'm layering the dead grass, adding compost granules, and red wiggler worms. Topping the pile with a black mesh tarp to allow rain penetration and ventilation. Is this a proper method to make compost? I have no idea. I'm new to gardening on this level. Just joined this site (for two years) and hoping to make the best of things.
Cheers, Mark in Falcon, CO.

Starting with sod is not the conventional way to make compost but it will work. I would take off the netting. In the fall, collect all the leaves you can find and cover the sod pack.

Compost must be kept moist, so if you are having dry weather, you can sprinkle it once a week.
