I finished planting seeds for my fall flower/vegetable bed this morning. My husband came right behind me and spread corn gluten meal in the flower bed.
1) Will the CGM stop the flower and vegetable seeds from germinating?
2) Short of hand picking out all of the little granules, any other suggestions on how to get it out? I haven't watered the area yet.
3) How long will it be before I can plant seeds successfully in this flower bed again?

Many thanks!

It seems that it might/probably will affect your seeds, depending on how large the seeds are/what species you planted (they probably all are pretty small seeds, so the cgm probably will inhibit them some). Depending on what the bed looks like, I might consider using a shop vac to suck up the cgm and whatever dirt you can't avoid picking up. Unfortunately, that may pick up the flower seeds also, so you might need to reseed the bed. If that works, you should save the material and either use it somewhere else or reapply it after the reseeded bed sprouts. The cgm isn't soluble, so washing it in may not/probably won't help. It might help to kick the microbial activity with a somewhat heavy sugar and/or a microbial application to breakdown the cgm faster. I'm afraid that anything else that would denature the germination inhibition might adversely affect the bed/seed germination, but maybe someone else knows of a way to neutralize the germination inhibition effect.
