Hi there. I'm Dawn. I have started a raised garden in my backyard. I'm hoping that I'll be much more successful than in the past...which have been dismal failures. But due to really bad produce in our grocery stores, a huge change in our diets (no more processed foods, only grassfed meats, and organic veggies), and a growing bearded dragon ( she requires fresh veggies, but is not eating enough and what I buy goes bad quickly), I decided that this will be best for my family. My husband and I have 4 children, my oldest just left for boot camp. We have 3 horses, two dogs, two cats, two parrots, and our bearded dragon and my son's leopard geckos. We also have many outdoor cats, that have come to my home seeking shelter when people dump them on our road. I should be a rescue shelter at this point!

I very noticeably have a black thumb. I've killed even the easiest plants to care for...the ones that some have claimed unkillable! LOL I'm notorious for over watering and forgetting to water. This year, I'd like to change all that and that is why I've joined this forum and a few others.

Though I jumped the gun and already planted tomatoes, peppers, green beans and zucchini, I'm still researching. I'm hoping that I can actually not kill any plants, and we get some yummy veggies.

My set up is two 3x6 raised sub irrigated planters, one 30 gallon Rubbermaid sub irrigated tub, and a smaller 3x3 raised sub irrigated planter. We have a lot of sand and red clay here, and moles or maybe they are voles? I don't know, but they are ugly as sin. My planters are filled with peat moss/vermiculite mix and I will be adding in composting from our red worms. One of the planters has a worm tower in it and redworms directly in the bed. I am planning to do this with the other bigger bed once I have determined, I have not killed the other redworms. I also have them in a tub in my kitchen.

I'm looking forward to learning as much as a can, and being able to have a wonderful garden I can be proud of!

Dawn
