I noticed a couple of reports on hummingbird starting to migrate south.

A common question is when to take down a hummingbird feeder.

Generally the amount of daylight is a bigger migration trigger than temperature. A good rule of thumb is to leave your feeder up until you have not seen one for 2 weeks. I saw one in my backyard just north of Dallas on Oct. 2.

It seems like more hummers are over-wintering along the Gulf Coast. And some western species are wintering in small numbers in eastern states. Small numbers of the beautiful Rufous Hummingbird have been reported far out of their normal range during winter months. If you keep your feeders up all winter you might have a nice surprise one day.
