The outer edges are yellowish. I water in the mornings. I've looked closely at the circles. No insects at all. I've dug up some of it-- no grubs. I believe the post by Kathy Kitchens (above) nailed it. I compost in the Fall, then lay heavy Nitrogen fertilizers Spring and Fall. There are also some settled areas that may be ponding water. Those factors are turning the yard into a petri dish.

When brown patch is active it is orange on the edges, once the center turns brown the grass is dead but not the brown patch. Since the brown patch fungis is in the soil it will tend to come back to the same area every year. Also when it is the orange color advoid walking on it as that will spread the fungis.

Continue watering in the a.m. as it gives the grass a chance to dry before the cool of evening comes on.

Other then that all I can say follow the advice of the others here as I am just learning organic.
