Hi Kid,
I see no one has been able to help you with your question. I'm not from your area, but this extension service site should be helpful with lawn care info for your area.

You might also want to read the 'Sticky' topics on this forum.

Hope this helps,

Kid -
I don't believe Over and Out is an organic product. I've had great results ridding my yard of fireant mounds using cornmeal and dried molasses. I've also used BioForm Dry, Texas Greensand and in September I'm applying corn gluten meal. My st augustine is looking much better, and every now and then I pull the weeds (especially the dallisgrass) by hand. The rest of it I hope to eventually get crowded out by the st augustine.

Kid,

I would suggest starting here ( Organic Lawn FAQ ) and then read the posts on the forum that fit your needs best.

Also, you will want to update your information to include the area you are in. Knowing how to help someone is very indicative of what region and area you are in.

Best of luck to you in your lawn and garden adventures.

I encountered a similar problem when I bought a house with a long-neglected lawn in Dallas. I wasn't sure there was any good grass at all in the lawn, but I "watered the weeds" regularly, and to my surprise the St. Augustine grass rebounded.

Fertilizer will fertilize the weeds as well as the grass, so fertilizer wouldn't be the first thing on my list of things to try. I would just begin a basic organic program which will nourish the lawn as time goes by. A light topdressing of compost will help begin to fill in the ruts and provide a mild fertilization as well. Your own observations are the best guide to watering. If the grass blades begins to curl and look a little metalic instead of a lush, deep green, the ground is too dry. If your footprints remain in the grass when you walk across it, it is too dry. Strive for a good, deep watering, and then wait awhile before watering again, because constantly soggy ground promotes disease. I would suggest keeping the lawn watered and mowed (high) for a few weeks before worrying too much about the weeds, since a lot of weeds will be eliminated as the grass becomes healthier. The day after a good watering is a good time to pull weeds, and if you spend a little time pulling weeds each week, while keeping the lawn watered and mowed, you'll probably be gaining on the weeds after awhile.

Good luck to you!
