What is this? Our live oak has been dropping seeds that I've never seen before, or that I am aware of. They are small, light tan, pointed at both ends like a skinny football, flat on some sides, and about 1/8" long. There was a large dump of these a few weeks ago and it's starting again. Some, but not all, other trees in our North East Dallas neighborhood are doing the same thing. This tree was planted 15 yrs. ago and has been healthy, & trimmed regularly by an arborist. Root flare is exposed, but patio and driveway 10 ft. from trunk. Birds and squirrels aren't interested in eating them. Any ideas out there?

For this kind of question, posting photos is a huge help. Do you have a phone or digital camera, and when you photograph them, be sure there is something (a coin, a key, etc.) in the photo for scale.

First thought that comes to mind is some kind of a gall. Do any of these look like what you're seeing? (it's google search results).
