RE: Whole Foods beef facts.

I shop at the original one down on Lower Greenville. There are big, colour trifold pamphlets for the taking, describing the entire beef program, from birth to slaughter, on the meat counter.

It was produced by one of their major suppliers, Golden Valley Beef, who are at http://www.goldenvalleymeat.com

When I'm in the mood to splurge I always get my beef cuts at Whole Foods. However I've always been motivated merely by the better tasting outcome rather than anything to do with corn vs grass fed. Really appreciate the info provided here by everyone so far.

BTW, Bill, the link you posted for Golden Valley Beef doesn't appear to be a valid registered domain. A google search didn't turn much up using either "beef" of "meat(s)". I did find a possible reference to the company here:

ProTeam Power

or possibly..

GOLDEN VALLEY MEAT, L.L.C.

In any case is there a valid web site with information on their operation? I'm really interested in anything out there since I'm not getting to Whole Foods as much as I used to.

That is weird re: that link! I got it off the back of the pamphlet and double checked the name... hmmmmmmmm??? I did not, however, try it myself.

Maybe Whole Foods has link off of their site... will have to try it.

Here's the info that Whole Foods has on their websites pertaining their meats. While their beef cattle diets are strictly vegitarian, they don't get into any specifics pertaining to what exactly that encompasses. I suppose it's safe to say that theirs isn't exclusively grass fed.

Their meat standards are here:

Good stuf, dcluck... thanks!

That is exactly what is on the pamphlet, except it has an intro that also says "they are finished on corn" and "they graze on native pastures... in cow-calf pairs." I take native pastures to be whatever grasses are native to the area the cattle live.
