Just planted a new 4 inch red oak, 16 ft tall in my front yard. I was going to spread some dry molasses and corn gluten meal aroung the tree to help get it started and then do a foliar feed. Is that okay, or should I wait for the regular fertilizing in the winter?

I would spread the dry molasses over the entire yard now and then the corn gluten meal in early spring before the weeds start to germinate. That will take care of the tree fertilization as well as provide some weed control.

You can also use the over-winter months to spread the beneficial mineral sands like Volcanite, Lava sand and Green sand. That'll settle in nicely during the off time and it'll already be in the soil and ready to help as things become active in the spring.

Thanks gentlemen, I have done both and added a little plain corn meal around the tree and finally foliated(?) with Garrett Juice and orange oil. Again, thanks for your advice. Will do molasses and corn gluten meal on the whole yard again in the spring.
