Is this possible. There is a place which is all grass that stays short and is never mowed. I would like to plant but do not want to plow it under to do so. Is it possible to either,
1. Plant in the midst of the grass and they will grow. Since is an established lawn, I'm assuming everything should be planed as seedlings.
2. Or, make very small "plowed" tracks, being only a couple of inches wide, and plant either seedlings or seeds.

Your thoughts.

Thank you in advance.

Do you have any names of the grasses you're interested in? Or are these ornamental plants that aren't true grasses?

Are you trying to duplicate a planting you have seen somewhere, in which case, can you take a photo and share it with us?

I see - you're asking about putting in a no-till garden, with vegetables. I thought you were trying to plant a different type of grass in the same place.

You can dig a hole and put the plant in, but if nothing has been done there for a while you might want to spread a layer of compost and soil amendments over the area, even if you aren't tilling. If the grass grows more vigorously once the garden is in and more water and such, then you could do the "lasagna" approach around each veggie plant and put down layers of newspaper (several pages at a time in each layer) and cover it with mulch or compost.

If I understand, the whole area would not have to be prepped, just the hole the plant is in, is that correct?

Thanks

If you'll search through this site or simply go to Google and search "no till gardening" (use the quotes) you'll get lots of results with advice. You could just plant, or you could mulch, or do any number of variations on these.
