I planted some pincushion flower in my back yard about a month ago and there appears to be something growing on it - it's kind of a grayish film, but it rubs off pretty easily. The plants aren't flowering as much as I thought they would even though I deadhead religiously, but maybe they're just getting too much shade (mostly morning sun)? They're part of my attempt at a butterfly garden that isn't taking off as well as I'd like. Thanks for any suggestions!

I believe that's powdery mildew. I got that on mine as well (when I had them). Make sure that when you water, you do it in the morning so it can dry during the day. If you water at night they sit thru the night all wet. It may have been because of all the rain. Solution? umm, if I remember correctly you can spray it with potassium bicarbonate (get it at any organic nursery).

Thanks Sandi! I'll try the potassium bicarb. I have some of that for my roses already.
