We live on 80 acres that has numerous live oak trees on it. We have a neighbor trying to convince us to get someone to come out and inject the trees (his property as well as ours) with Alamo fungicide. As an organic gardener the thought just makes my skin crawl!
Is there some organic way (besides the sick tree treatment) to prevent the spread of Oak Wilt. There has been some comfirmed cases to the south of us. We do not want to risk any of our wonderful oaks!
Any suggestions?

The sick tree treatment may be the only answer.

Even if you arn't organic, that is a waste of money.

If you use it, it should be a treatment, not a preventative. Depending on the how's and when's of using Alamo, they say is works best for trees with less than 20% crown loss.

The best advise is to not get infected at all. Be extreamly careful when clearing brush, putting in roads, mowing, playing...you get the drift. Any mechanical damage to the bark however slight it may be is an open invitation to the beetle that vectors Oak Wilt. If you are infected, the sick tree treatment is by far the best option on 80 acres.

OK, just after I opened my big keyboard I found where some people are recomending Alamo as a preventative. This is however for threatened trees. If the confirmed cases are a mile or two south, I woudn't worry with it. The spread of oak wilt appears to be in a more southerly direction from the initial attack.

Again, keeping the tree healthy in the first place is the best solution.
