I have two older trees - an elm (I think) and a fruitless mulberry that are bleeding a brown liquid. The liquid drops to the ground and kills the grass. What is it? Thanks in advance for your help.

sjthornton-

Can you find the source of the dripping? Are they wounds in the trunk and branches, and if so what do they look like?

Always when a proplem shows up on a previously healthy tree, first thing you should do is ask- what has changed?

I'd hit it with sick tree treatment, then make sure to add garlic pepper tea to the folier feed so that any bugs tempted to take advantage of their weakness will be run off by the tea.

Thanks. They're old trees planted way before I bought the house. The elm seems to be seeping from a knot (it's a fairly large area) where it starts to branch out; the mulberry has just started to bleed from the end of a cut limb where it was topped off (I Did Not Do That) years ago. I'll look for the sick tree treatment at the local organic proprietor.

I'd still like to know what that seeping stuff is.
