we are leasing a home for a few years. we moved in april and there was absolutely nothing in the flower beds, which go 3/4 around the house. i am wanting to plant some grasses or cacti, succulents....more desert plants but don't know if i can plant them in the fall and which ones are okay around the house and since it's not our home, i don't want to invest a lot of money. the house has a spanish feel to it and i want some plants with good architectural qualities.

Stephenville Texas is not in zone 3. What state are you in?

It is important in this type forum to know where one lives. That is why it appears in many people's profile.

 Could there be more than one Stephenville?

Not a better one IMO, my favorite boot builder was once in Stephenville, now in Foat Wuth (I think).

Amy-
I think you're in zone 8 like most of us TX guys(except for Houston). If you want cactus & succulants, I'd use 'hen & chicks' b/c its easy & spreads. But takes a while to spread. Do you know your neighbors? You can't go wrong w/cuttings from friends & neighbors-free-& you can get creative. If you want to PM me w/address, I'll mail you cuttings of my 'hen & chicks' & also purple wandering jew which will grow even if you just lay it on the ground. I don't do well w/cactus, either I water too much or too little.
