Mix it with something dry like humate or cornmeal, or just throw it out by hand as I normally do. Make sure your spreader has a beater bar in the bottom and don't use a drop spreader.

I agree with Howard on this. Drop spreaders don't let the stuff flow. I never thought about mixing it with corn meal. That's an interesting idea. As much as I like slinging corn meal around, that idea is really growing on me.

I threw it by hand, but I don't have nearly 5,000 square feet. Have you tried a whirly spreader? You might look at rental yards to see if they have a commercial type spreader that will work for you.

Lava sand makes a good mixer too. I've also mixed it with Volcanite and even Rice Hull Compost once.

Plus you can get two things done at once that way.

I have tried spreaders and don't think they get the required amount of lava sand, green sand, etc, you put need on the yard. I have mixed the lava sand and green sand and dried molasses in a wheel barrow and used a drop spreader and a "whirly" spreader and the next time I do this, I will add corn meal to the mix and and spread it by hand. I was doing that some last time, but did not think about it for the whole yard. Thanks Howard!
