hi beer;
in the nov/dec issue of texas gardener there is a fascinating article on munson grapes. t.v. munson lives from 1843-1913. he bred grapes specifically for texas. there is a facinating story of him virtually saving france's wine industry by providing them with a graft from his grapes during the 1800s when their vines were destroyed by disease. the one that sounds good for right here (i'm in joshua) is 'champanel' a black grape munson developed in 1893. resistant to cotton root rot & 'pierce's disease'. it is reported to be heat & drought tolerant & thrives in many soil types. it is reportedly good for freezing, jelly, or blended with others for winemaking. good luck

A good white grape for wine is Blac du Bois it was developed by U of Fl and is resistant to PD, and does well in central Texas. A good souce of information is the Yahoo Group for Organic Grapes , "ORGANIC VITICULTURE"
