the evil photinia is back! It started growing out of the brick of my barbecue last season...I cut it off at the brick level, and I hauled the remnants off and thought I had killed it in the chipper. no such luck. This season, the immortal and invasive photinia is back where it started and this time it is starting to distort the brick in the barbecue. How can I get rid of this nasty critter without resorting to either tearing apart the barbecue grill or using poisons?

you might try spraying it with vinegar after you have cut it (& the cut is fresh).
