I planted several garlic cloves 1/20/06 and they have come up nicely. My question is should I cut back the green shoots to make the heads larger? I have seen different opnions on this. I aslo planted Red Onions in January should I cut back? How do I know they are ready to harvest? Any advise would be appreciated

I have not read that cutting back the green will make the heads larger..personally I would not. As far as the onions go, you should be able to see the tops of the oonions above the dirt line and you can decide when you'd like to pull them up, depending on the size you want. I would not cut back the greens on any plant like that. Depending on the plant, sometimes the green tops will die back telling you when it's time to pick.
