Jean-
Liquid Fence has a dog and cat repellent product that you can view and buy on line. http://www.liquidfence.com/subcatmfgpro ... 1=206&2=-1
I have one bottle and have used it to keep cats out of a certain area, it worked. Please share your experiences with the forum if you try it. My one experience is far from a trend.

A temporary solution, but could be longer lasting if the animal(s) become conditioned to it. Sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes generously in the area. As dogs normally sniff out their prospective spots, they might not be inclined to linger. I buy large containers at our local wholsale club and use them to discourage critters from digging in my compost pile. Reapplication is necessary every couple of days to remain effective.

Good luck and let us know what you do and how it works.
