Does anyone currently use a solar energy system in their house to provide electricity? Has it been economical? I've been looking into ways to make my house 'greener' and thought about solar energy systems, but I dont know where to turn. Any information would be appreciated. :D

I want to have both solar & wind if/when we build so it would be great if both of you would keep us all posted on your progress. We would be 'on grid' for back up but I understand if you generate more than you need, they buy it from you. (I think we'll charge an arm & a leg like they are now!)

I am looking for resources on making a current house 'green'. I cannot build/rebuild and live in suburbia, so my options are conditional. I just dont know what information resources are available.

Gary Olp who is the moderator of this subject is a great local source in Dallas. There are hundreds of web site full of information but the best web site in Texas is the city of Austin. They have a green house tour coming up in May. I attended two years ago and got a lot of info.

Also, there is a sustainable fair in Fredericksburg each year with tons of vendors and free exhibits.

Ron, I totally agree!

Of course, I'm older than dirt, but I grew up in a small KS town & we had no AC. It gets into the 100s in KS too, but a little drier probably. There were summer days that I spent in & out of wash tubs filled w/water in the yard! But the house was never stifling hot. I think we had an attic fan for nights.

Everyone needs to go to the open house Saturday 11th in Frisco-hopefully this concept will catch on.
