For greening the grass, try corn gluten meal. Personally, I would not buy Scott's Fertilizer, even if they say it's organic.
I'm in the same camp, and my company goes through 2-3 pallets of fertilizer (about 150 bags) every season. I go to Rohde's and one other outlet close to my business.
A couple of other ideas. Greg Rohde taught me the first, which is to fertilize more often, smaller amounts so that the feeding stays constant. With any of our yards that aren't responding, or if they're the newer homes that seem to have really cruddy soil, we'll just apply at about 5-10 lbs per 1000 sq feet instead of the recommended 20lbs, and do it more often.
Another one not to forget is to grab a sprayer and foliar feed. We don't do that with every property, it would be too expensive. If you do it in addition to the dry fertilizing, it works great. We use either Garret Juice, or if it seems pretty bleak and the soil doesn't have the aroma of good healthy microbiotic activity, we'll add a microbial spray or Hasta Gro for quick results on the front end.
The fertilizers we use all have molasses in them. If the product you're using doesn't, I would certainly put on an application of dry molasses at 10lbs per 1000 sq ft in addition to your fertilizer.
