This past Spring I had a HUGE crop of sticker burrs. In some places, particularly under live oak trees, those web-like plants covered my nice St. Augustine grass.

Twice weekly I would fill up 5 trash cans with those weeds.

What can I do to prevent a repeat of this next Spring?

I did a search (top of page) & came up with this link. Basically, you have crummy soil which encourages the burrs. Good Luck!

The best preemergent for stickers is to remove them. Drag an old blanket, burlap bag, or any other fabric over it and discard the blanket. Keep doing that until the burrs are gone.

The to keep them from coming back, grow grass there. Sticker burrs cannot survive in soil that is moderately moist and fertile.
