Aphids, mealy bugs, caterpillars and so on- just about any pest out there- "they" say these things only attack distressed plants, plants in distress, sick plants, plants not planted or cared for correctly or whatever wordage means there's something wrong with the plant already. You done messed something up and now you got bugs.

Aphids on sunflowers are not cheetahs running down gazelles. Predatory animals may choose the weak one of the herd because they'll spend less energy on a more likely kill than if they try to run down the fastest gazelle on the plains. Aphids don't have to catch sunflowers.
