The brainwashing of the consumer continues onwards......
GRAS & FDA - just another con job on the public.
Amer. Heart Association - founded by food industry as a rubber stamp of their bad science...........
For thousands of years, mankind has subsisted on traditional fats - be they saturated or monosaturated fats. Only in the last century has the issue of poly-unsaturated fats become a staple of the consumer diet.
Oddly, with the increased use of poly's (sounds like polymers!!! to me), there is a corresponding increase in the rise of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). CHD was almost non existent in the medical journals of the early 1900's, and or history. Without the modern processing facilities and chemicals (hexane & others) to extract the oils, poly's could not be
MANUFACTURED. Natural oils are pressed from natural products.
Regardless of what the "bad (paid) science" says, or has purported to claim in their biased studies, canola is not a good choice, nor it is totally free of side effects and problems. While modern (GM)) canola oil is better than the original due to reduced erucic levels, it, like soy, is a cheap and inexpensive alternative for the food industry, and costly in the long run for the health of the consumer.
The whole issue of Omega fatty acids (3 & 6) and the fact that it is a monosaturated fat are being touted as the saving grace of canola oil. This is in part due to the lowered erucic acid levels in the current GMO modified crops, but are still not without side effects on the heart and vascular system. In fact, according to the article below, a person can receive an ample supply of Omega acids from foods containing saturated fats.
The following article on Canola explains the history and science behind Canola oil and its introduction as a food.
