Hi! I have a neighbor here in Austin who has big bugs messing with her pomegranates. She said she sprayed with a Bayer organic spray and it clouded around her head and she has been sick and weak ever since...(she did this a month or 2 ago.)
She said there is nothing warning about this on the label.
Does she have any recourse? She had to go to the emergency room, a pulmonary specialist...says she used to walk for 2 hours and now can only manage 20 minutes.
Any suggestions?
btw, the bugs are out in force, causing the fruit to be inedible.

Has she tried to report the results to whatever agency collects that information - EPA? State environmental or health departments? Someone doing a study on the product or chemicals contained in it?

Otherwise, I expect that "buyer beware" is all she will be told. Despite the fact that the label probably has incomprehensible chemicals listed, there are usually federal directions also attached that tell consumers to use it safely. She should have read the label and used it more carefully - and researched the ingredients listed there.

People make mistakes with products, and in a case like this selling something that causes such obvious harm might trump the product user guidelines. I would have her research or keep an eye out for lawsuits regarding the product. It may not bring her health back but perhaps a settlement will help with the medical bills.

Thanks...I don't know her well at all. She's from Russia. Don't know how long she's been here. I will let her know about the EPA and your other suggestions. Thanks so much!

I just offered a guess, but since this post is in play for a little while perhaps someone with a more comprehensive answer will come along.

Since you're in Texas, there is a network of statewide "help lines" that can be reached if you dial 311.

Austin 311 offers connections to a lot of city services, and though I don't see a specific category that would offer this kind of help, but they are supposedly a referral site so if you call and ask perhaps you can get referred to a number that deals with this kind of consumer or health question.

You'll see that the site offers telephone numbers so choose the one that works for your locality and see if they can give you a referral.

If you look at the labels on the Bayer products, even on the website, there are warnings. Most of them will also warn about spraying in windy conditions where it might come back on you and you may inhale it. So sorry about her situation. Do you know which product it was?
