Purple Gallinules are one of my favorite birds. They are colorful and when out in the open are easy to photograph! A great combination. They have really long toes for walking over lily pads and amazingly can balance on a thin branch with those long toes. These photos were taken at the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge.

Years ago I found several nesting pair in Irving. Unfortunately the area was drained and now has nesting humans.
