My wife likes that I'm growing vegetables with the organic method, but she doesn't think it will work with her roses. One of her rose beds is separated from the vegetables, but one is adjacent to vegetables and 2 fruit trees. I got her to agree to let me take over that bed. I used Garrett Juice, uncovered the woody trunks down to the root flare, mulched with wood chips - and they didn't flourish. She got impatient and went back to her fertilizer and anti-fungal chemicals, and they are blooming like crazy.

I've insisted that she give me another chance. I need this to work!!!

I know nothing about roses. These are just big-box-store roses on grafted root stock. They get full sun. How can I prove that the organic program is better and get those chemicals away from my vegetables and fruit trees? Should I expect there to be a "withdrawal" period while the plants adjust to the new program like an addict kicking the habit?

All I want is a non-toxic, beautiful, and edible garden AND domestic tranquility. Surely that's not too much to ask. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you visit the Library of Organic Information and the Guides you'll find lots of specialized programs that deal with roses.

Here is the Roses Organic Program. Roses grew and thrived long before the chemical companies came along and suggested different means. You can compete against toxic chemicals, and your yard will be a much happier space.l Another tip not listed there, I hear people talk about getting used coffee grounds (from places like Starbucks) and sprinkling them under the roses they'll be very happy.
