Live in Southern California and have 2 thirty year old trees next to each other. Needles are rapidly falling off over past 2 months from lower 1/3 of tree and so far no fungus or other diseases have been isolated by major university specializing in diagnosing. So to try to get tree to build its immune system and try to fight whatever is occurring what do I need to do to build its immune system and see if it can win its battle to stay alive. Note its winter time and soil is rather compact. A arborist said salts are causing necrosis of redwoods foliage and needles on cedar are falling off of branches causing bare branch which eventually dies (ie no green layer internally)..... The branch is like hardwood when dead. Because it's winter and I don't want to harm tree can ground be airated safely, fertilized and fed safely. If so with what. Basically what can help my trees to fight. (Ie magnesium, iron, nitrogen, etc. If so how much and if not then what). Thanks!
