I live in Central Texas - have a garden plot not used in 5 years. I did make a row for tomatoes this year (with a the help of young guy to break the soil). I have a tiller, but ground is too hard. My question is how do I get the soil ready for a real garden - should I put mulch over the soil, or just put compost on the area for rows. I used Garrett Tea and compost for tomatoes and had a bumper crop.

Garden area is 150 ft by 250 w/ high deer fence.

I am able to work from home and have more time for garden.

Any ideas how to get it started?

Visit the Guides pages and you'll see various tips, including for bed preparation. That should give you a good start, and then ask us if you get stumped. You can also look up individual topics in the Library of Organic Information
