My St. Augustine lawn in SW Fort Worth is in need of dethatching - thatch is starting to choke out the new growth.
Can you recommend a provider servicing this area?
Thanks!

Look in the directory of local businesses but this is something you can take care of yourself (and prevent in the future).

Under the "THATCH" setting in the organic library this is the entry:
Quote:
You won’t have it in an organic program so let’s get with it. Aerate heavily and apply sugar or dry molasses at
5 pounds per 1,000 square feet and an organic fertilizer. For sure don’t use de-thatching tools on St. Augustine grass.

Look through the library for the various terms and instructions: https://www.dirtdoctor.com/dirtdoctor-library

I have seen a thatchy St Augustine lawn, but it most definitely did not choke out the new grass. The cause of thatch in St Augustine is extremely improper watering. Watering must be done deeply and infrequently. Deep means 1 inch all at one time. Infrequently means once a month with temps below 70 degrees F. Between 70 and 80 water once every 3 weeks. Between 80 and 90 water once every other week. Between 90 and 100 water once every week. From 100 to 105 water every 5 days. From 105 to 115 water every 4 days. Use this as a guide, but at no time ever should you water every day.
