Hello. I've see a number of videos showing that you should prune some of the lower branches of tomato plants. Thought being it helps prevent some diseases by getting the lower leaves off the ground. They also recommend removing "suckers", the spouts that start to grow at the V formed at a branch and the main stalk.

Are these good practices? I'm growing Porter and Super Fantastic. Cedar mulch around the plants.

It probably won't hurt keeping a few of the bottom leaves off of the ground, but the pruning "suckers" isn't necessary. You might want to sprinkle some cornmeal on the ground under them (to combat fungal diseases). You can also mist on some 3% (household) hydrogen peroxide to combat the fungal early blight that is a common reason for the yellowing leaves.
