I have a small Japanese Maple which I planted in 2020 in a large 50gal+ pot. with good drainage. (It made it thru last Feb with the pot being wrapped. It leafed out great this spring. And now the leaves have turned brown from the tips in, but are supple and NOT crunchy. (see the ugly close-up)
It had spent the most of the summer on the north side of the patio where it gets max 2 hrs of direct morning light starting at sunrise, and then no more than 4 hrs of light filtered thru the pergola. I water thoroughly once a week. To me leaf scorch seems to be the most likely culprit, not indication of disease I can see, but that's not alot of light.
